Alexey Sychev is an internationally acclaimed pianist, recognized for both his virtuosity and expressive artistry. He has established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation, achieving the rare distinction of being the only pianist in the world to win Gold Medals at three International Franz Liszt Piano Competitions. At the VIII International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Weimar, he was awarded First Prize, the Audience Prize, and the Liszt Sonata Prize, and received a scholarship from the Wagner Society. Further Gold Medals were awarded in Parma and Grottammare (Italy), the latter held under the chairmanship of Martha Argerich.
A laureate of more than 30 international competitions across five continents, Alexey Sychev has received top prizes at major competitions including the José Iturbi, Dublin, Maria Canals, Jaén, Viotti, Casagrande, and San Marino International Piano Competitions.
He has won First Prizes at international piano competitions in Argentina, Chile, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Morocco, the Netherlands, Russia, and the United States.
Alexey Sychev has performed in over 20 countries and appeared in many of the world’s leading concert halls, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Musikverein in Vienna, Salle Cortot in Paris, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the National Concert Hall of Ireland, the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Dvořák Hall in Prague, the Gulbenkian Hall in Lisbon, Sala Argentina in Buenos Aires, and Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo. As a soloist, he has collaborated with numerous orchestras, including the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, Chilean National Symphony Orchestra, Gulbenkian Orchestra, Orchestra Arturo Toscanini, Staatskapelle Weimar, and Staatskapelle Schwerin.
He has been invited to perform at prestigious international festivals such as Beethovenfest in Bonn, the Gina Bachauer International Festival in the United States, Semanas Musicales in Chile, the Verdi Festival in Parma, Pianino Festival in Spain, and Les Sommets du Classique in Switzerland. His recordings have been released by Czech Radio and Naxos of America.
Alexey Sychev graduated with honors from the prestigious Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, supported by the Rostropovich Foundation scholarship. He continued his studies at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, and completed the Konzertexamen degree at the University of Münster as a DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) scholar. Among his teachers were Alexei Nasedkin, Pavel Nersessian, Alexei Nabioulin, Jacques Rouvier, Arnulf von Arnim and Jan Jiracek von Arnim. He also received guidance from distinguished artists such as Paul Badura-Skoda, Bernd Goetzke, Klaus Hellwig, Jerome Rose and Arie Vardi.
Alongside his performing career, Alexey Sychev is a dedicated educator, regularly invited to give masterclasses at conservatories and festivals worldwide. He has served as a guest professor at the Castellón Conservatory in Spain and Kobe College in Japan, and is a faculty member at the CIMPF Piano Festival and Yamaha Summer Program. He is currently a visiting professor at the Elisabeth University of Music and also frequently invited as a jury member at international piano competitions across Europe and Asia, including the PTNA Piano Competition (highest category) in Japan.
